World Scientific is presently the exclusive publisher and distributor for this established journal. Advances in Complex Systems is a quarterly journal that aims to provide a unique medium of communication for multidisciplinary approaches, either empirical or theoretical, to the study of complex systems. Its goals is to promote cross-fertilization of ideas among all the scientific disciplines having to deal with their own complex systems, including biology, physics, engineering, economics, cognitive science and the social sciences. It is in fact the exchange of concepts and techniques - developed within areas as diverse as spin glass physics, decision sciences, mathematical economics, evolutionary biology, or psychology - which proved to be a major driving force in complex systems research.
The journal is committed to the highest scientific standards, judging contributions on their contents and scientific value alone, rather than whether methods, questions, style, or language conform to the customs of a particular field. Its objective is therefore to publish papers which result from collaborations across traditional academic disciplines. While papers must have a sufficiently long introduction accessible to a readership from a wide range of scientific disciplines and a discussion section placing results in a broad perspective, the main body of a paper must not have a low technical content under the pretext that the journal is multi-disciplinary.
The journal publishes predominately full original research articles. Short communications (letters) are intended as brief reports on important progress, useful applications, and novel interpretations of previous results. Reviews are welcome on topics that are of a general interest. As submission and reviewing processes are handled electronically whenever possible, the journal promises rapid publication of articles.
